Rangers hold off Sabres 4-3

The Sabres returned to the ice on Thursday after a week off, but fell to the New York Rangers 4-3 at Madison Square Garden. Buffalo tied the game three times, but New York sealed the win with a late goal by Pavel Buchnevich. Rick Nash picked up three points, including two goals, while Jack Eichel and Sam Reinhart both had two assists for Buffalo. The Sabres peppered Henrik Lundqvist with 37 shots, including 15 in the final period. Robin Lehner came up with 30 saves in the loss.

Nash converted his early breakaway chance for the 1-0 Rangers lead. Just 1:24 into the game, Nash took advantage of a Buffalo turnover, flew up the ice and beat Lehner for his 12th goal of the season. Despite trailing early, Buffalo had several chances to even the score throughout the period including a glorious opportunity for Eichel, who was foiled first by Lundqvist and then by New York forward J.T. Miller on the rebound chance. The tying goal eventually came at 18:41 when Kyle Okposo sent a Sam Reinhart feed into the net on the power play, Okposo’s second goal in as many games. Jack Eichel got the play started with a pass to Reinhart, good for his seventh point in four games. Read More
