Reinhart’s hat trick powers Sabres past Capitals

Sam Reinhart scored a hat trick, and the Buffalo Sabres ended their four-game losing streak with a 5-2 win against the Washington Capitals at KeyBank Center on Saturday.

“You don’t want to have to rally around a loss, but the position we were in and still are in, it took that effort against a team like Tampa,” Reinhart said of Buffalo’s previous game, a 2-1 shootout loss to the NHL-leading Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday. “It was really important for us to follow it up against another one of the best teams.” Read More

For the second time in less than a week, the Buffalo Sabres were defeated by the Washington Capitals by a one-goal margin. After losing in a shootout 4-3 last Saturday night, the blue and gold were done in tonight by the final score of 2-1 at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C.

The Sabres got off to a good start, but it only lasted for 58 seconds. Just as a power play ended, Jack Eichel deposited the puck in a wide open net off a rebound to give the Sabres the lead. Eichel now has 22 points in his last 15 games.

Generally Carter Hutton is excellent behind the net handling the puck, but for the second game in a row, he mishandled the puck and Devonte Smith-Pelley grabbed it and immediately found an open Brett Connolly to tie it. Read More

Sabres blanked by Boston in season opener 4-0

The Boston Bruins scored twice in the opening period, helping the team defeat the Buffalo Sabres 4-0 on Thursday night at KeyBank Center.

Zdeno Chara opened the scoring with his first goal of the season. It came on Boston’s fifth shot of the period. It was the Bruins’ first goal of the season, after getting shut out by the Washington Capitals 7-0 last night. Brad Marchand and Charlie McAvoy received the assists on the game’s first score.

Vladimir Sabotka took the first penalty of the game with under six minuted remaining in the opening stanza. The veteran forward was called for slashing, after getting a piece of David Pasternak who was skating towards the net in the offensive zone. Read More
